One of Orlando’s most recognizable sports and entertainment venues is undergoing a dramatic transformation.
Construction is underway on a $400 million renovation of Camping World Stadium, bringing new seating, expanded concourses, upgraded technology, premium spaces, improved accessibility and a completely redesigned exterior to the nearly 90-year-old venue.
The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027, just in time for Camping World Stadium to serve as the temporary home of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2027 NFL season.
Here is what Orlando residents and visitors should know about the Camping World Stadium renovation.
Why Is Camping World Stadium Being Renovated?
Camping World Stadium has hosted some of Central Florida’s biggest sporting events, concerts and community celebrations. Its annual calendar includes college football bowl games, the Florida Classic, international soccer matches, major concerts and festivals.
However, portions of the stadium date back several decades, despite major improvements completed during earlier renovation phases in 2014 and 2021.
The current project is designed to complete a modernization plan that began in 2006. City leaders and Florida Citrus Sports hope the upgrades will keep the stadium competitive with newer venues while helping Orlando attract larger sporting events, concerts and entertainment productions.
Unlike a completely new stadium, the project will preserve and reuse significant portions of the existing structure. Upper seating bowls and concourses will be selectively demolished and rebuilt, while newer areas will be incorporated into the redesigned venue.
How Much Will the Camping World Stadium Renovation Cost?
The comprehensive improvement project has a budget of approximately $400 million.
The stadium renovation is being funded entirely through the Orange County Tourist Development Tax, commonly known as the hotel tax. This is a six-percent tax collected on qualifying short-term accommodations in Orange County, including hotel and vacation-rental stays. Florida law limits how Tourist Development Tax revenue may be used.
The renovation is intended to extend the stadium’s useful life, improve revenue opportunities and allow the venue to host a wider variety of large-scale events.
What Will the Renovated Camping World Stadium Look Like?
Perhaps the most noticeable change will be the stadium’s exterior.
The renovated venue will receive a unified architectural design intended to connect the original stadium with its later additions. A new climate-responsive façade will wrap portions of the structure, helping reduce direct sun exposure while allowing prevailing winds to contribute to passive cooling.
Programmable lighting will also be incorporated into the façade. This will allow the stadium to display different colors and lighting effects for football games, concerts, civic occasions and other major events.
The result should give Camping World Stadium a more modern identity, particularly when viewed from surrounding roads and neighborhoods after dark.
Expanded and Rebuilt Seating
The renovation will increase Camping World Stadium’s permanent seating capacity to approximately 65,000.
Around 2,000 permanent seats will be added as part of the project. Upper seating areas on the east and west sides will be reconstructed, and the north side will receive an expanded upper bowl.
Many of the rebuilt areas will include modern chair-back seating intended to improve comfort, safety and sightlines. Structural work will also help extend the life of the building and strengthen modified areas of the stadium.
A New North Endzone Tower
One of the renovation’s biggest additions will be a new North Endzone Tower.
The tower will connect suite and terrace levels that were previously separated. It will add escalators, premium seating and improved circulation between different areas of the stadium.
A new north end zone club is also planned, adding another premium hospitality option for games and other special events.
Wider Concourses and More Amenities
Anyone who has attended a sold-out event at Camping World Stadium knows that concourse space can become crowded.
The renovation will replace and expand the Terrace Level concourse, giving fans more room to move through the stadium. New concessions, restrooms and other amenities will be added throughout the venue.
Improved vertical transportation—including escalators and other ways to move between levels—is also part of the project.
These changes may not receive as much attention as the new façade, but they could make one of the biggest differences during busy events.
New Suites and Premium Experiences
Camping World Stadium’s suite levels and premium areas will be updated and expanded.
The project includes new and renovated suites, premium seating, club areas and hospitality spaces. These additions are designed to offer a more immersive event experience while increasing the stadium’s ability to generate revenue.
The renovated premium areas will complement existing offerings such as clubs, loge boxes and luxury suites.
Better Technology and Audiovisual Systems
Technology throughout the stadium will receive a major update.
Plans include upgraded audiovisual equipment, building systems, internal infrastructure and operational technology. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems will also be modernized.
The improvements should support everything from scoreboard presentations and stadium operations to concerts and major television broadcasts.
Improved Accessibility
Accessibility is another important part of the Camping World Stadium renovation.
The 650,000-square-foot project includes updates related to building codes, life safety, circulation and ADA accessibility. Rebuilt seating and concourse areas are being designed to improve access, comfort and movement through the stadium.
Accessibility upgrades will complement the stadium’s existing wheelchair seating, companion seating, accessible restrooms and assistive-listening services.
A Stadium Designed for More Than Football
Although Camping World Stadium is strongly associated with football, the renovation is intended to make it more flexible for concerts, soccer, community gatherings and other large events.
Retractable seating planned for the south lower bowl will allow crews to convert the venue more efficiently between sports and entertainment configurations.
The south end of the stadium will also receive operational upgrades, including a new loading dock, command center and expanded support spaces. These features should make it easier to accommodate touring productions and large concert stages.
The Jacksonville Jaguars Are Coming to Orlando in 2027
The renovation has gained even more attention because Camping World Stadium will temporarily become an NFL home field.
NFL owners unanimously approved a one-year agreement allowing the Jacksonville Jaguars to play their 2027 home games at Camping World Stadium. The Jaguars must temporarily relocate while EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville undergoes its own major redevelopment.
The 2027 season will mark a significant milestone for Orlando, bringing a full slate of NFL regular-season home games to the city.
Camping World Stadium will officially be designated as the Jaguars’ home stadium for that season. The team is expected to return to Jacksonville in 2028 when its renovated stadium is complete.
